What is Globanopei?

Part-Global and Part-enopei means to be “citizen of the world in Naples“. A person concerned about global issues, who decide to choose DIRECT ACTION at a local level in Naples and its surroundings. In this area citizens are also called Partenopei (because the ancient name of the town was Partenope). So everyone can be a Globanopeo, if he/she feels like being interested in Naples destiny, facing local problems that have a global impact. Most of these problems concern equity and ecology. And find their origin into a lack of respect to some living being…can it be human, animal, insect, fish, vegetable or water…in the end a lack of respect to Nature. That’s why I say that the final goal of human actions should be to try to live in a more respectful way towards Nature.

The mission of my initiatives is then to educate ourselves to be more respectful to Nature inside our towns (today made mostly of concrete and steel!). My efforts related to findtourinnaples.com are then directed to find financial, material and human resources to make DIRECT ACTIONS increasingly effective. The results of these ations is condensed in nonsporcarelanatura.it, a website that is the “cornerstone” of a comunication activity made through various social network platforms.

It’s part of this mission to find connections with other people aiming at the same goals, to share experiencies on practices and how-to-do’s.

glocal welfare community

In a historical era in which the welfare state is under attack from a global, capitalist political culture, defending people’s rights becomes increasingly necessary. In the current context, I see no alternative other than assuming individual responsibility for a whole range of social and environmental issues. Each of us must hold ourselves accountable for what happens in the public sphere. It is no longer enough to delegate to an increasingly non-existent state. The provision of services needed by the community must be ensured through the construction of welfare communities. We should build communities of responsible people who are more capable than others of promoting healthy development at the local level. These people must act within civil society, also using the tools the market provides.

The guidelines for these communities’ “way of life” should be GLOCALISM. In my opinion glocalism should express a full range of political, economical, social and ecological strategies at a local level, to give practises and how-to-do’s to people living in a certain territory with its specific characteristics, with the aim of reducing the social and environmental negative impact of human activities, also on a global level. This way to behave is well represented by the famous slogan “THINK GLOBAL, ACT LOCAL“.

Globanopei is an attempt to build a welfare community (at the local level in the Naples area) among the three categories of “citizens” who normally inhabit “the towns inside our world“: “natives,” “immigrants“, and “travellers“. The motto is: I am a citizen of Naples, even if just for one day. So…

I care about the destiny of this town.

Anyone who lives in the towns of our world, even if just for one day as a tourist or even as a migrant directed to other countries, could and should (in the writer’s opinion) consider himself citizen of that town, and be involved in its destiny, taking action to promote a sustainable glocal development.
