Why a Talking Tour? (instead of a Walking Tour)
The ironic proposal comes from my awareness about the need to build stronger relationships among people all around the world. This is needed to make this world a better place to live in for everybody. In order to achieve this goal we should learn to operate in our everyday life with a mutual respect that is based on well recognisable civil rights. Our civil rights must be based on civil laws (as much fair as possible). Why do we need civil laws (written by governments)? Because we forgot to operate with a mutual respect based on natural laws.
Tourism is one of the “area of life” in which the promotion of such values can be more effective, due to its potential to produce cultural exchange among people. That’s why I think that travelling should be considered an important chance to build good relationships among people, to share experiences about our social, economical and political systems, and to try to have at the end stronger connections among us. The ultimate goal could be to have a world based on respect and peace. Respect towards each human being but – in the end – respect to every living being on this planet. That is to say Respect towards Nature.
Each talking tour is an occasion to “touch” specific problems in single areas of Naples and surroundings. We will discover most problably that those problems are not so specific. The origin of most of our towns’ problems has to be found in a culture based on selfish and short-sighted values. Only if we talk to each other freely we can understand how to start working together “peer to peer” to improve a world that has been ruined by governments during human history. The best way is to build glocal welfare communities among people, to take care of what the governments fail to do.
the centre of napoli

It’s a caotic place, like many centre of many tonws all over our super built, artificial, concrete and steel world. The typical narrow lanes of the historical center with the ancient greek structure (or roman…does not matter so much), not good enough to let today people live a normal life, were in the past occupied by several local small shops, that had to serve local people. Travel industry has completely changed the look of these places, transforming them in a “typical shopping centre for tourists”, not so different from many other typical centre of other towns of our globalized world. This is a process that expanded all around the town, literally selling the soul of Naples to travel industry.
But there is much more to tell about it…
the coast in the gulf

Napoli is a bit special compared to other towns in Italy. The distance between the center and the surrounding towns (what we call province) is zero! There is a unique carpet of concrete and steel from the Phlegrean Fields in the north of the city to Castellammare di Stabia in the south. After the second world war there has been a huge activity to build roads and buildings with no respect to any rational urban laws. This made life in these places particularly difficult from a social point of view. The damage of living in places like these is clear in many part of our “developed” world, but there is nothing that makes the politicians try to work to improve the situation.

looking for a swim

The coast in the gulf of Napoli can vary a lot from one place to another, making also the beaches very different. But the access to the sea for people is (almost everywhere) more and more difficult since the start of the neapolitan touristic success. The only real consequence of this phenomenon is people trying to find business opportunities to increase their economical power. With the complicity of local governments – then – many public places – like beaches for example – turn to be private as a matter of fact, often with an “imaginative application” of both european and italian or local regulatory framework. In the end there are few or no free beaches all around the coast.

the slums in the suburbs

Just like everywhere else in the world, expecially in what it was used to be called “the south”, the suburbs are places where governments quickly make buildings for “city center expelled citizens”. Here you can breath in the air the insanity of a politics driving people no-where-else-then-hell. Often these places become a perfect destination for public funds going to the wallet of local-development-fake-associations, that develop nothing else than continuing to sustain local politicians and the drug dealing.
But there is much more to tell about it…
migrants vs locals

Mass migrations are the central element of the “Armageddon” we are facing nowadays. Also Napoli has become a destination for people leaving their homes to find jobs and financial resources to send to relatives and friends that are still in their original places. In a way or another migrants are building “cities inside cities”, often keeping their own habits or creating a cultural mix that still makes “people of the western civilization” scared and willing to build walls between an “us and them” that become day by day more and more indefinable. Unfortunately also neapolitans do not care enough about giving an adequate hospitality to people belonging to nations that have been socially and economically devastated by the typical “western” colonialism over the past centuries.
But there is much more to tell about it…
respect towards nature

Respect to Nature is the main problem in our world! Infact the main goal of my activities is to try to increase people awareness about this issue. The aim is to play my small part in the process of driving more and more financial and human resources to the matter. “Western civilization” culture is too much based on thoughtless consumption of resources of this planet. There will be hope for a peaceful and sustainble future only if humans join together to fight against capitalistic culture.

LET’S BUILD WELFARE COMMUNITY NETWORKS
My goal is to build relationships to make an attempt to work together for local welfare communities, sharing experiences or how-to-do’s. I think that the only hope for the future of our planet is on “simple” people responsibility.
I will be glad to be with you in your vacation in Naples and surroundings and to collect donations to “spread the voice” and build a local network of people working for a sustainable development.
